{"id":103,"date":"2013-07-29T17:27:39","date_gmt":"2013-07-29T17:27:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hodnett.eu\/?p=103"},"modified":"2014-08-31T13:35:17","modified_gmt":"2014-08-31T13:35:17","slug":"9-years-its-final-done","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hodnett.eu\/?p=103","title":{"rendered":"9 Years, It&#8217;s finaly done."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the picture below is of me, that was take in 2004 while I was climbing a route called Afterbirth 22 meters HVS 5a *, Forest View Buttress, Spellack in the Mourne Mountains.\u00a0 I was on study leave from school while I was doing my GCSE&#8217;s at the time.\u00a0\u00a0 So not much studying was done as me and my dad went out climbing instead.\u00a0 On this day me, my dad and my two climbing friends Amy and James,\u00a0 also in the picture (Amy is above me climbing while James is belaying her on Moto Psycho Nightmare 22 meters HVS 5a *).\u00a0 Shortly after this picture was taken I fall off,\u00a0 That was my first ever lead fall.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_104\" style=\"width: 221px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hodnett.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/FM0002-e1375687125774.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-104\" class=\"wp-image-104 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/hodnett.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/FM0002-e1375687125774.jpg\" alt=\"9 Years ago\" width=\"211\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-104\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">9 Years ago<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sence then it has always sat in the back of my mind that I wanted to re climb this route,\u00a0 every time I have been to Forest View Buttress sense then I have always felt a strong connection with the place and I could feel the route staring at me and taunting me.\u00a0 Even with its re grading to E1 5b I still had to climb that route.\u00a0 So today after 9 years I climbed her, Afterbirth is done.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_107\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hodnett.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20130729_1029521.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107\" class=\"wp-image-107 size-medium\" title=\"James looking faward to climb on the walk in. Forest view in the back ground.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">My friend James who was in the picture above was free for a climb today so we decided on Forest view as the weather wasn&#8217;t looking at great and it has a short walk in, it&#8217;s also has a few easier routes as James hasn&#8217;t climbed much recently and wanted to start off easy.\u00a0 I first lead off on Final FU 22 meter <span id=\":16i\" dir=\"ltr\">servere <\/span>4a,\u00a0 I was easier than I remember it being and was feeling pretty good when I got to the top.\u00a0 James then decided to lead Single Birth 20 meter <span id=\":16i\" dir=\"ltr\">Servere <\/span>4a.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_109\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hodnett.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/20130729_135655-225x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-109\" class=\"wp-image-109 size-medium\" title=\"Afterbirth in all her glory.  \" src=\"http:\/\/www.hodnett.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/20130729_135655-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"20130729_135655\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-109\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Afterbirth in all her glory. Just before the rain started.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I was feeling pretty good after those routes so I decided that if I don&#8217;t do it now I won&#8217;t do it, so I decided to attempted Afterbirth.\u00a0 I racked and James sorted the rope at the bottom of the route, we tied in James put me on belay and I started climbing.\u00a0 It was easy well protected climbing almost all the way up till where the crack narrows, where your holding onto a good hold that you don&#8217;t want to let go of but after a lot of swearing, giving myself a good talking to and that my calves where killing me again, I attempted the move and put as much gear in as I could,\u00a0 to give me confidence.\u00a0 James gave me good motivation as I moved up the route, hunting for the good hold.\u00a0 My head was making the route felt harder than the moves really where.\u00a0\u00a0 I passed the place I remember being when I fall off 9 years ago.\u00a0 I think what I did wrong at the time was I moved out of the crack to early and wouldn&#8217;t get myself back in.\u00a0 Today I stayed in the crack and found good holds to get myself up the route.\u00a0 Getting to the belay I was starting to feel my brain getting very tired,\u00a0 all i wanted to do was get myself safe on a belay as the rope drag was getting annoying.\u00a0 Once I was safe I was like\u00a0 YES!!!!!!!
